JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for set-up and run of custom one-of-a-kind and volume-quality parts on manual machines with close tolerances in a time-definite environment. The environment requires working in carbon, steel, brass, bronze, copper, and alloy steels with small and large parts with close tolerances from drawings
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must be able to read drawings and layout work.
- Records start/stop times on work traveler sheets to account for production time.
- Stamps, drills, uses manual cutter or provides other supplemental services to post lathe or milling of manufactured parts
- It takes necessary preventative maintenance steps to ensure the production machine is at peak performance and reports any irregularities to the immediate supervisor. Support secondary manufacturing operations such as grinding, painting, sanding, engraving, stamping, or packaging of manufactured products where needed.
- Be knowledgeable in quality control in shop machine processes, and quality standards in the use of calipers, micrometers, and dial indicators for checking finished parts. Be knowledgeable and remain current with all safety guidelines with regard to facilities and environmental compliance issues
- Acquire technical updates from the Shop Foreman on machines and support equipment as necessary to provide production support, proper repair, and maintenance
- Must understand that time-sensitive work orders are to be prioritized and furthermore communicate conditions which compromise on time completion or restrict its production.
- Communicate the status of lack of material, out-of-service machines, and/or equipment to the Shop supervisor well in advance of each work process which would ordinarily be needed to complete the scope of work
- Maintain accurate timekeeping on work orders of all shop and maintenance-related work and submit to Shop supervisor as work is completed
- Verifies Heat Number codes and metal designation of the product prior to the working material
- Utilizes a forklift to load and unload raw products as necessary.
- Ensures any surplus raw inventory pulls for stock items or assemble are returned to stock and are properly identified with heat Code#
- Remove all by-product drops and ensure waste is placed in the right container by material grade for recycling or reuse
- Observes displays, cutting or machining process, and listen to the sound of machines to detect malfunctions. S/he is responsible for the replacement of worn or damaged machine parts.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Skill
- Communicates sufficiently to communicate in a clear, understandable manner.
- Conflict Resolution and Problem Solving experience
- Knowledge of production processes and flow of product
- Must be able to be effective in a fast-paced environment
Education
- High School diploma or GED
Work Experience
- 2 years of experience in a metal fabricating environment with knowledge of machining.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, climb, bend, stoop, push and pull.
- Continuous standing and/or walking.
- Moderate physical effort- working frequently with average weights of ten to fifty pounds or continuously with lighter weights.
- Good eye/hand/foot coordination.
- Good visual acuity- cannot be colorblind.
- Ability to work in cold, hot, and/or dusty environments, with noisy conditions.
- Must be able to become forklift certified.
- Must be able to lift fifty pounds independently.
