Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Joint Use Technician to perform essential field data collection, network design assessments, and pole attachment evaluations for telecom and utility infrastructure. This is an onsite, contract-to-hire opportunity based in Houston, TX, ideal for candidates with engineering, construction, or telecommunications experience. The role involves hands-on fieldwork, documentation, and design coordination using industry-standard tools and software.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:

- Collect pole information and document measurements using hand methods, IkeGPS, or Katapult.
- Determine optimal locations for new above-ground facilities and equipment.
- Conduct underground and buried cable layout surveys.
- Develop accurate fiber/optical network construction surveys.
- Perform site walks and assess substructure locations for new builds.
- Analyze and map fiber optic cable routing and construction routes.
- Conduct pole loading analysis using oCalc, SpidaCalc, or PoleForeman.
- Support Make-Ready design/engineering in line with NESC and local utility standards.
- Upload clear, organized documentation including sketches, notes, and site images.
- Interface with tools like Google Earth, project management software, and Microsoft Office.
- Coordinate make-ready sketches and permitting for electrical infrastructure (e.g., CPS Energy, WMIS/ARM).
- Maintain personal vehicle to company safety standards and adhere to all field safety protocols.
- Deliver professional field sketches and design input in real time.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Experience in engineering, construction, or telecommunications industries.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to use personal vehicle for fieldwork.
- Access to a computer and printer with scanning capabilities.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Google Earth/Maps.
- Ability to upload, edit, and organize files in project management platforms.
- Strong organization, communication, and time management skills.
- Ability to follow changing workflows, prioritize tasks, and maintain professional composure.

Minimum Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1–3 years of experience in a relevant field such as telecom, construction, or utility inspection.
- Intermediate computer proficiency and ability to learn new tech tools.

Preferred Qualifications:
-
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields.
- Working knowledge of GO 95, GO 128, NESC, TxDOT permitting, or local electric utility standards.
- Experience with fiber routing, telecom construction techniques, and Make-Ready Engineering.
- Familiarity with ROW (Right-of-Way) permitting, utility detection, and network design impact assessments.
- Prior work involving pole attachments, cable relocation, guying and anchoring, and related permitting.
- Comfort performing physically demanding work (standing, walking, lifting, driving) during site visits.
